چکیده
Active contours and surfaces are deformable models used for 2D and 3D image segmentation. In this paper, we propose two methods developed in order to accelerate 3D image segmentation process. They are adaptations on active surfaces of two methods developed for 2D active contour. We use them on a discrete 3D surface model (mesh) evolving with the greedy algorithm. Those methods will be compared to the classical greedy algorithm and to a recent fast adaptation of the level set method.

Towards Feature Extraction on Implicit Surfaces using Geodesic Active Contours
Active contours and their successors are widely used in image segmentation and feature extraction, which belong to the most important tasks in computer vision and image analysis. Their application to planar 2D and 3D images represented as stacks of planar 2D sections was researched extensively in the past. Only recently efforts have been made to generalise active contour models to images on cur...
متن کامل3D colonic polyp segmentation using dynamic deformable surfaces
An improved 3D method for colonic polyp segmentation was developed based on previous 2D method. The method is based on combination of 3D knowledge-guided intensity adjustment, fuzzy clustering, and dynamic deformable surfaces. After intensity adjustment and fuzzy clustering, a deformable surface is employed to locate the polyp boundaries. The surface is also dynamically maintained to preserve t...
متن کاملRefining Mitochondria Segmentation in Electron Microscopy Imagery with Active Surfaces
We present an active surface-based method for refining the boundary surfaces of mitochondria segmentation data. We exploit the fact that mitochondria have thick dark membranes, so referencing the image data at the inner membrane can help drive a more accurate delineation of the outer membrane surface. Given the initial boundary prediction from a machine learning-based segmentation algorithm as ...
متن کاملImage segmentation and reconstruction of 3D surfaces from carotid ultrasound images
A new algorithm is proposed for the automatic segmentation of the common carotid wall in ultrasound images. It uses the random sample consensus (RANSAC) method to estimate the most significant cubic splines or ellipses fitting the edge map of a longitudinal or a transversal section, respectively. Periodic spline fitting is also investigated for transversal sections. The geometric model (spline ...
متن کاملSegmentation of Three-dimensional Images with Parametric Active Surfaces and Topology Changes
In this paper, we introduce a novel parametric method for segmentation of three-dimensional images. We consider a piecewise constant version of the Mumford-Shah and the Chan-Vese functionals and perform a region-based segmentation of 3D image data. An evolution law is derived from energy minimization problems which push the surfaces to the boundaries of 3D objects in the image. We propose a par...
